Dot "Make a mark and see where it takes you"...

I read The Dot by Peter Reynolds to my 5th graders, and we made these collaborative pieces.

Each of my students created a "Dot" using Anagolous Colors
analogousAnalogous color scheme
Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs.
Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
Make sure you have enough contrast when choosing an analogous color scheme.
Choose one color to dominate, a second to support. The third color is used (along with black, white or gray) as an accent.

Then we added some Common Core Math thinking to the lesson.

My students were asked to figure out how many combinations could we make with our 25 dots?

Paintings for the New Wing of the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital

Paintings in Process

First my students create ideas on an 8x10 piece of paper and they submit them.

I have the very difficult task of choosing the ones that will be come paintings.
The student who drew the pictures chosen becomes the "Project Leader".

Then we use the document camera and projector to trace the idea on a large piece of paper.

They "Project Leader" chooses students that will help them turn their drawing into a painting.

They work as a team.  Adding their talents and ideas to the painting.

Then I bring the paintings to the Lafontsee Gallery and they take them and put them in beautiful frames and place them in the hospital for all to enjoy.
